Year 9
Year 9 is a very important time for pupils, as they begin their transition to keystage 4. During November and December they will experience a comprehensive careers programme delivered in PSHE lessons. On January 19th the option booklets will be issued. The number of options are being extended each year and in order for pupils to make an informed choice, there are some important meetings held at school. The first is on the evening of January 26th. The different keystage 4 pathways will be explained in detail and each subject will have displays and information on courses that they offer. It is an ideal time to ask questions. Then pupils and parents will be asked to attend a tutor evening. There will be a choice of two tutor evenings. The first is on February 4th from 16:00 to 18:30. The second is on February 9th from 18:00 to 20:30. Shortly after this pupils will be asked to hand in their completed option form.
It is important to note that some GCSE courses will begin in the summer term of Year 9. I would strongly advise parents not to book as holiday during this time. It is really important for pupils to be in lessons so that they do not fall behind on coursework and assessments.
In Year 9 pupils can expect an increase in homework tasks, it is important that a homework routine is established. If pupils need computer access or a bit of extra help they can attend homework club. This is held Monday to Thursday for an hour after school. If pupils are unsure of their homework task, they are encouraged to go back and see their teacher.
If you have any concerns about your child’s progress please contact their subject teacher. If you have concerns about your child’s welfare then please contact their tutor in the first instance.
