Welcome
Great Torrington Community School is a really happy school where learners flourish and gain skills and qualifications which set them up for successful and exciting lives. This is a very exciting time to be at this school because we have been designated as a high performing specialist school due to our last inspection in 2006, which found all aspects of the school to be at least good and some were very good. This meant that we could have a second specialism and we have been awarded Applied Learning to go with our Sports Specialism. The extra funding has enabled us to provide courses and training for smaller groups of learners particularly in vocational subjects and the new Diploma. Added to all this we have new Art, Music, Drama, History and Special Needs classrooms. We look forward to working closely with you to ensure that your child's education is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. There will be opportunities to visit the school and find out more about the educational activities we offer.
Dianne Nicholson, Headteacher
The school's work as a specialist sports college is very effective in promoting pupils' health and fitness and developing their self-esteem.

Box Tops for Schools
Please can I appeal to you all to continue to collect the Box Tops for Books tokens? These tokens are on the top of breakfast cereal packets. We have collecting boxes in reception and here in the library. When you ask friends, relatives and neighbours to collect for us too we are very successful. In the past we have chosen many valuable books from this scheme - the new books look really good. For more information please click here. By eating a healthy breakfast you will be helping us to collect for the next new series.

Parental Questionnaire: Can you help us?
Every two years we carry out a Parental Perceptions Survey. The purpose of this is for you to tell us what you think of the school and how we can provide a better service to you and your children. As in previous surveys the results will be analysed by the educational consultancy that designed the questionnaire and then used in the school’s annual planning process which starts in April. The aim is to provide your children with an even better quality education during their time at Great Torrington.
A random sample of 600 pupils from all years will be provided with a questionnaire on Monday 1st February. Please can you take the time to fill in the questionnaire which you child brings home and return it to his/her tutor by Friday 12th February at the latest.
Thank you
Mike Clarke
Deputy Headteacher
